Dr. Sze joined the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) since 2011, in his current role as the Head of Mainland Affairs for the University, prior to this, Dr. Sze held a variety of positions as in-house counsel, Vice President for Finance and Operations, Country Manager, Director of Operations for various North American and European investors in Beijing for more than a decade, responsible for start-up, establishment of the daily operations, and overseeing project origination, portfolio management and financing in China.

In addition to his business acumen, Dr. Sze also co-founded China ODR Forum, one of the earliest Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) initiatives in China to promote the use of ADR and ODR in 2004, and served as a Visiting Expert, and China Impact Person on Intellectual Property from 2006 to 2011 for International Development Law Organization (IDLO), an inter-governmental organization headquartered in Rome. Dr. Sze was a steering member involved in organizing the 6th UN International ODR Forum held in Hong Kong in 2007.

Dr. Sze is a qualified Mediator, Domain Name Examiner, and Administrative Panelist.  With wide ranging expertise across the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) spectrum, Dr. Sze sits on a number of panels and has been involved in over 100 disputes to date.

Dr. Sze has been a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) since 1999.  Dr. Sze obtained his undergraduate degrees in law and business from Hong Kong Shue Yan College and Peking University in 1997.  He has an LLM degree in dispute prevention and resolutions from the University of Westminster in 1999.  Dr. Sze has participated in an Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) program, jointly organized by HEC Paris and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) in Beijing from 2008 to 2009. The title of Dr. Sze’s doctoral thesis was “Online Dispute Resolution: Its Development, Concepts and Theories”, where he studied jurisprudence and legal culture at Chinese Academy of Social Science in Beijing.
